Academy Awards, popularly known as Oscars, is an annual award ceremony. Awards are given to recognize excellence and contribution to film making around the world.
The first Oscar Award ceremony was held on May 16, 1929 at Hotel Roosevelt in Hollywood.
The 81st Academy Awards were given on February 23 in Los Angeles. Danny Boyle directed Slumdog Millionaire won eight out of the 10 nominations.
AR Rahman created history by becoming the first Indian to bag two Oscars.
